“Awakening Ancestors through my fingertips” - Kaxhyêk
Un Indigenous peoples & food sovereignty exhibition 2012
"This exhibition presents indigenous peoples’ right to food sovereignty, a concept defined as the right of indigenous peoples to determine their own policies and strategies for the sustainable production, distribution, and consumption of food, according to their cultures and traditional systems. The exhibition showcases artworks, photographs, and films, which convey the concept of food sovereignty and how it is closely linked to other rights, including food security, self-determination, maintenance of cultural identity, health and well-being."
ravenstail weaving
The intricate art of ravenstail weaving. Weaving is Healing. It is meditative. Each individual woven strand is a prayer, a manifestation of positive energy, a moment of reincarnation. While weaving, I feel connected to my ancestors and it gives me a clear understanding that no matter where my physical body is on this Earth, my roots, my ancestors are always within. I am doing what my inner spirit insists on accomplishing. Awakening Ancestors through my fingertips.
Beadwork
Beading is healing. I love entering the sacred space of weaving beads. Beadwork is a beloved form of artwork popular with Native Indigenous tribes worldwide. I personally enjoy weaving brickstitch style using Miyuki and Toho beads.
